Ulf Fink has been involved in health system issues for many years. On the political side this included his activity as the Senator for Health and Welfare in Berlin from 1981 to 1989. He was also a parliamentary representative in the Bundestag and member of the Bundestag Health Committee from 1994 to 2002. Fink is also the founder of the WISO Group, together with which he not only carries out analyses and authors expert reports in the area of health and social policies and health system economics. He organizes health congresses of international significance such as the Capitol City Congress for Medicine and Health, which drew more than 8 000 visitors from the various specialities.
Ulf Fink is chairman of Health City Berlin (registered association), an organization which provides a platform for the exchange of ideas on the economics of the health system in Berlin-Brandenburg and brings together the area's most important decision makers. Along with other offices he has held in the health services, Fink's longstanding work as President of the Kneipp Association (registered association) from 1997 to 2009 deserves special mention. There he actively promotes a stronger support for health and prevention programs, initiating among other things the Prevention Law Working Group, with well-known experts from the health system. Complementary medicine is also a topic which has benefited for years from the former senator's active support. The most current example is the Kneipp Foundation Professorship for Natural Healing at the Berlin Charité.
